FDM Fire Door Inspection Qualification Level 3

This qualification is suitable for all Fire door inspectors who want to prove their competence in their role.

The GQA Level 3 Diploma in Inspection of Fire Resistant Doorsets certifies individuals who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to enable to them to prepare for and carry out non-invasive inspections of fire-resistant doorsets.

This qualification emphasises compliance with current legislation and standards, the need to carry out detailed and thorough fire doorset inspections, communication with stakeholders, and the ability to prepare and submit comprehensive inspection reports.

This qualification focuses on the practical skills and knowledge and understanding required to carry out the role of fire resistant doorset inspector.The assessments for this qualification should be undertaken in the context of fire door inspection with the candidate mainly working on customer premises.

Types of evidence

Evidence of knowledge is required. Evidence of knowledge can be demonstrated through a range of methods including responses to oral and/or written questions, assignments, or professional discussions.

Suggested sources of evidence are shown above, these can be supplemented by physical or documentary evidence e.g.: Accident book/reporting system.

How will your evidence be assessed

To ensure comprehensive coverage of the learning outcomes are met, the following assessment methods are to be used across the units:

  • Direct Observation: Assessing actual tasks being carried out in the workplace. 
  • Work Product Evaluation: Reviewing completed reports, checklists, and documentation. 
  • Professional Discussions: Structured conversations exploring knowledge and decision-making. 
  • Questioning: Written and verbal questions, including scenario-based questions. 
  • Reflective Accounts: Written narratives of inspection experiences and learning reflections. 
  • Witness Testimonies: Statements from supervisors or stakeholders confirming competence. 
  • Video and photographic evidence: Video footage of actual tasks being carried out and reference to the appropriate paperwork trail, showing decision making on site and adherence to safety standards.
