Introduction to the Qualification

The GQA Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Fire Doors is designed for individuals who want to demonstrate their competence, skills, and understanding in the installation of fire doors within the construction industry.
 
This qualification showcases your ability to plan, prepare, and carry out fire door installations safely, accurately, and in accordance with current industry standards, regulations, and codes of practice.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners must have the opportunity to gather workplace evidence and demonstrate the required performance criteria.
 
To enrol, you will need:
  • Experience in fire door installation or a related construction role.
  • Access to a live working environment for assessment.
  • A commitment to complete the required evidence and portfolio.
Once registered, you’ll be allocated a qualified Assessor who will support you through the process, review your evidence, and guide you toward successful completion.

Assessment evidence

This qualification is assessed through a portfolio of evidence, supported by direct observation and documentation of practical work.
 
Evidence may include:
  • Direct observations of practical installation work in the workplace
  • Witness testimonies from supervisors or managers
  • Video recordings of completed installation tasks
  • Written or recorded responses to knowledge-based questions
  • Professional or guided discussions between the learner and assessor
  • Written assignments or statements
  • Supporting documents such as training records, previous certificates, CV, or employment history
All evidence must demonstrate that the learner has met the required standards of performance and knowledge within each unit.
 
Assessment is carried out by an occupationally competent assessor holding a recognised assessor qualification, and is subject to both internal and external quality assurance through GQA Qualifications.

How will your evidence be assessed

To ensure comprehensive coverage of the learning outcomes are met, the following assessment methods are to be used across the units:

  • Direct Observation: Assessing actual tasks being carried out in the workplace. 
  • Work Product Evaluation: Reviewing completed reports, checklists, and documentation. 
  • Professional Discussions: Structured conversations exploring knowledge and decision-making. 
  • Questioning: Written and verbal questions, including scenario-based questions. 
  • Reflective Accounts: Written narratives of installation experiences and learning reflections. 
  • Witness Testimonies: Statements from supervisors or stakeholders confirming competence. 
  • Video and photographic evidence: Video footage of actual tasks being carried out and reference to the appropriate paperwork trail, showing decision making on site and adherence to safety standards. 

Qualification & Installation in-person place for the 3-day accredited fire door installation course at one of our two training centres, Manchester or Oxford

Combined package of Qualification and FDM in person underpinning knowledge accredited course – £2200 plus VAT pp
